The last rites of Sushma Swaraj, the former Foreign Minister, will be performed on the 7th of August in Delhi.

Ms. Swaraj passed away on the 6th of August at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

According to sources, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, 67 years old, was admitted to the hospital around 9:30 P.M., and within a few hours, she died of cardiac arrest.

The demise of Ms. Swaraj was confirmed by a doctor at the AIIMS.  Despite the late hours, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reached the hospital immediately.

Ms. Swaraj was one of the prominent leaders of the BJP and a former Supreme Court (SC) lawyer.

Sushma Swaraj became a Cabinet Minister at the age of 25 in 1977 and was the youngest of all.

She was also the second woman to hold an office as a part of the Government of India, the first one was Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Apart from being the former External Affairs Minister of India, Ms. Swaraj also served as the Chief Minister of Delhi.  She also served as a Member of Parliament 7 times and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) 3 times.

The demise of Ms. Swaraj shocked the Nation as she was one of the kindest souls and was always ready to help the people of India.

When she was admitted to the hospital, Ms. Swaraj posted her last tweet and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for scrapping Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ms. Swaraj said, “Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime.”

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and other political leaders took to Twitter and conveyed their condolences to the family of Ms. Swaraj.

 The last rites of Sushma Swaraj will be performed with state honours.  Her body will be kept at the BJP headquarters from 12:00 P.M., to 3:00 P.M., for the members and leaders of the Party to pay their last respects.  Later, Ms. Swaraj’s body will be taken to the Lodhi Road crematorium for the last rites.

Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, announced a 2 day mourning in the State, following Sushma Swaraj’s demise.
