Tamil Nadu Assembly elections for 234 seats are underway on the 6th of April.

The election began from 8:00 A.M., and would be held till 5:00 P.M. The State recorded 53.35% voters turnout, the lowest of all other three states and one union territory. In addition, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu Satyabrata Sahoo said election to the legislative assembly was smooth with “no major law and order,”

In Tamil Nadu, a tough fight for power is between the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK.) The DMK was ruled out of power in 2011 and since then, the DMK is in power. With this election, if they win, the DMK would retain power forming the Tamil Nadu Government for the third time.

Both the strong patties of Tamil Nadu were established by J. Jayalalithaa (AIADMK) and K. Karunanidhi (DMK.) However, after the demise of the two leaders, the contest is now between M. Karunanidhi’s younger son M.K. Stalin and E.K. Palaniswami, who has recently established himself as the AIADMK’s leader.

The single phased Tamil Nadu elections are being held for 234 Assembly seats. The results of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections would be announced on the 2nd of May.

Stay tuned for further updates.
