Defence Ministry Of India Clears Two New Proposals

On Tuesday, the Defence Minister cleared two proposals to acquire Barak Missiles from Israel and precision guided bombs from Russia. The two proposals are to gear up the Indian Air Force with an expenditure of Rs. 1,714 crore.

According to the Ministry, a total of 131 Barak Missiles along with associated equipment will be bought. The Missiles will be procured under an option clause from the Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd. in Israel at the cost of Rs. 460 crore.

The Barak Missiles are surface to air and used as shipborne anti missile defence system against the enemies anti ship missiles.

The second proposal is to acquire 240 bombs from the JSC Rosonboron Exports in Russia at a cost of Rs. 1,254 crore. These bombs fall under the category of Precision Guided Munitions and will be used by the Indian Air Force.

In a statement, the Defence Ministry said, “This procurement will address the deficiency of Precision Guided Munitions in the IAF arsenal, besides enhancing the offensive capabilities of the IAF.”
