EPCA Lifts Construction Ban In Delhi

The Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) lifted the ban on entry of trucks and construction work in Delhi. The move was made after Delhi’s Air Quality Index came out of the hazardous zone.

The EPCA also removed the enhanced parking fee rule introduced while Delhi’s pollution was skyrocketing. The Air Quality Index remains out of the emergency category for the second day straight.

EPCA chairperson Bhure Lal wrote to the Chief Secretaries of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh directed them to lift the ban with immediate effect.

In the letter, Mr. Bhure Lal explained, “We are watching the situation very carefully and we have been informed by the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology that pollution may rise again because of increased moisture in the air in the coming days. However, if the conditions continue to improve and air quality stabilizes, we will review the measures under the ’Severe’ category and inform you accordingly.”

A few measures that can be taken to keep Delhi’s pollution in check:
1. Ensure oil filters, fuel filters, carbon filter in the silencer and air filters of the vehicles are cleaned regularly.
2. If the distance to travel is short, use an eco friendly mode of transportation like cycling or walking.
3. Delhi’s public transport is spreading and you can instead opt for traveling by bus or the Metro.
4. If public transport is hectic, carpooling is a good idea to avoid excess vehicles on the streets of Delhi.

The Delhi Government will ensure burning of garbage is completely stopped in the city. It will also begin water sprinkling on roads to control the dusk.
