In a controversial case, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) from Telangana arrested two people involved in uploading morphed obscene pictures of two Tollywood actresses.

The CID addressed the issue in a press release and reported the duo were arrested from Ahmedabad. The accused are identified as Thakor Balusinh and Thakor Maheshkumar Jayanthiji. Earlier this week, another individual was arrested in connection with the same case.

Balusinh and Jayanthiji admitted to their crime and confessed they did not know Telugu but could identify the Tollywood actresses. The accused published these obscene pictures online. Their website managed to generate Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35,000 every month due to the pictures.

Three sim cards, two mobile phones and four laptops were seized from the accused apart from the incriminating documents.

A case against the three has been registered under IPC sections 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 471 (using as genuine a forged) along with sections of the Information Technology Act.

This is not the first case where individuals have used celebrities’s fake pictures for monetary gain. Last month, the Movie Artists Association (MAA) lodged a complaint against 20 websites. The online webpages had defamatory photographs of multiple film personalities.

CID Cybercrimes Superintendent of Police, U. Rammohan reported, “After receiving the complaint, we went through the content which we cannot even describe openly. Nevertheless, we will take action against persons responsible for it.”

The 20 websites were charged under sections 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) and 67A (Punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing explicit content) of the Information Technology Act.
