Tibetan Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama Takes First Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine Today

On the 6th of March, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama received the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccination.

Revered as a ‘living god’ the 14th Dalai Lama took his first vaccine dose at Zonal Hospital in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. He received the vaccination dose at 7:10 A.M., on the 6th of March, after being under observation for 30 minutes.

The 85 year old Nobel Peace Laureate extended gratitude to the Central Government and the Himachal Pradesh State Government for the COVID-19 vaccine. The State Government has been planning to administer a vaccine to the 14th Dalai Lama since the last two months.

The Dharamsala-based Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) had written to the Indian government, requesting it to make special provisions for the Dalai Lama’s vaccination.

The CTA, also asked the Central Government and the Kangra district medical officer to vaccinate the Dalai Lama and those working around him at the earliest.

After being administered the vaccination, the Dalai Lama appealed to all eligible, especially ‘patients’, to come forward and get themselves vaccinated. The Dalai Lama’s Twitter post said, “This is very important so I took that and I want to share that more people should have the courage to take this injection.” He further added, “According to my trusted friends, including doctors, they suggest I should take this injection. In order to prevent some serious problems, this injection is very helpful and good. So those other patients should take this injection for greater benefit.”

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh there are 589 active cases, 57,428 recoveries and 997 death cases of COVID-19 till date.
