The Uttar Pradesh Government has announced free WiFi for the youth of the State, starting from the 15th of August.
According to sources, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced plans to provide WiFi to 75 districts of U.P.
The decision to provide free internet is taken with the vision of growth and development of the State. Under this initiative, people especially the youth would be able to avail the free WiFi facility across 217 public places in the U.P.
The Urban Development Department officials have been given the responsibility to ensure the free internet WiFi services by the 15th of August 2021. Divisional Commissioners, District Magistrates and Municipal Commissioners have been instructed to provide the facility at major public places, including bus stations, places near the railway stations, tehsils, courts, block offices, registrar offices and main markets.
It is to be noted, free WiFi was one of the major poll promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led U.P., Government, while retaining a second term in 2017. After coming to power, some major cities of the State were given free internet and WiFi. However, now the entire State would enjoy the facility.
According to officials, the facility will be available at two places in major cities (municipal corporations) and at one place in small cities. Civic officials will tie up with Internet companies for the free WiFi facility with good internet speed.
The major decision is said to be in the wake of the upcoming 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. Parties like the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Bahujan Samaj Party and the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslineen are also in the fray against the BJP.
