A 19 year old Dalit girl from Hathras area of Uttar Pradesh died on the night of the 29th of September.
The girl was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with severe injuries.
The girl died nearly two weeks after a brutal gangrape and assault.
On the 14th of September, a group of four men allegedly raped the girl in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the sources, the girl was brutally raped and strangled. Her condition was serious with spinal cord and neck damage. Her tongue was also cut out.
Initially she was admitted to a district hospital in Uttar Pradesh, but due to severe injuries, she was later shifted to Aligarh’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital.
A spokesperson of Aligarh’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, said the girl’s legs were completely paralysed and arms partially paralysed.
One of the doctors treating the girl said, “Due to the damaged spinal cord, the victim has quadriplegia (paralysis in all four limbs) and is not able to breathe properly.”
Finally on the 28th of September, due to serious injuries, the girl was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. She was in the intensive care unit (ICU.)
However, late on the 29th of September, she took her last breath.
The last rites of the girl was done by the Delhi Police at 3:00 A.M., on the 30th of September.
According to the sources, the police cremated the girl’s body without informing her parents.
The victim’s brother said, “It appears that my sister has been cremated; the police are not telling us anything. We begged them to let us bring her body inside the house one last time, but they didn’t listen to us.” He further said, “Police started being aggressive when we refused to cremate her. When my relatives tried to see what the police were doing, they kicked us, broke one of our relative’s bangles. Out of fear, we have locked ourselves in. Why are they doing this?”
Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress said, “Uttar Pradesh’s ‘class-specific’ rule of the land has killed another woman. The government said it was fake news and left the victim to die. This unfortunate incident, the death of the victim and the callousness of the government — none of this is fake news.”
Reacting to the death, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati also took to Twitter and said, The death of a Dalit gangrape victim in Uttar Pradesh is extremely saddening. The Government must extend all possible help to her family, and should ensure the trial of the case in a fast track court so that the criminals are punished soon. This is the BSP’s demand.”
