The Uttar Pradesh Police, on the 27th of August, filed a case against Swami Chinmayanand, a former Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
According to sources, Swami Chinmayanand allegedly kidnapped a 23 year old law student of Swami Shukdevanand Post Graduate College. The kidnapping happened after the law student posted a video on a social media platform, alleging Chinmayanand of exploitation and misusing his management power at her college.
The girl posted a video on the 24th of August at 4:00 P.M., and said, “A big leader of the Sant Samaj who has destroyed the lives of many other girls and also has threatened to kill me… I want to request Yogi ji and Modi ji to help me. He has threatened to kill my family. Only I know how I am living now…. Please help me. The Sanyasi, he keeps the police and the DM (District Magistrate) in his pockets. That’s what he keeps saying. But I have all the evidence against him (sic.)”
The father of the girl reported a missing report with the UP Police and alleged Chinmayanand of being responsible for the kidnapping. He said, “Many fears are emerging in my mind. This has been done by Swami Chinmayanand.” He further said, “I tried to look for her among my relatives too but she is nowhere to be found. These are influential people, it’s their government in the state and at the centre too, they can do anything. I expect that Yogi ji and Modi ji will help me.”
The legal team of the ex BJP MP’s ashram denied all the allegations and said the complaint is an attempt to tarnish his image as he was the former Central Minister of Internal Security. They also filed a case against an unknown person and said Chinmayanand received a WhatsApp message with a demand of Rs. 5 crores and a threat to damage the Ashram’s image.
Om Singh, the Spokesperson of Chinmayanand, said the woman and her father are plotting against Chinmayanand to become rich overnight. He further said, “I am surprised (at the allegations). The police are investigating. All the allegations are false and have been made to discredit the organisation and Swami’s image. The girl is sitting in a car. She is free to sit in a car and make a video, so how can there be a threat to her life.”
This is not the first time Chinmayanand was alleged of rape and abduction. In 2011, a woman filed a rape case against Chinmayanand. The girl, who spent several years at his ashram, said Swami Chinmayanand kept her confined in his ashram and raped her repeatedly for years. The Police filed a charge sheet in 2012, but never arrested Swami Chinmayanand. In 2018, the Yogi Adityanath led UP Government tried to withdraw the rape case, but the petition was rejected by the Shahjahanpur Court.
The District Police registered a case against Swami Chinmayanand and initiated an investigation to find the missing girl.
