Veteran writer Arun Sadhu has been admitted to Sion Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday. The 76 year old writer has been kept on ventilator support in the intensive care unit.
Dean in charge of the hospital, Dr. Jayshree Mondkar said, “He suffers from existing condition of cardiomyopathy. It is an old heart condition. His heart is not responding and the condition is currently critical.’
The writer is known for works like Mumbai Dinank, Kakasaheb Gadgil, Simhasan and many more novels written in English, Hindi and Marathi. Arun Sadhu has also been awarded the Sahitya Academy Award.
The doctors treating the writer have reported his condition has worsened overnight and requires constant monitoring.
Dr. Mondkar further said, “Our focus is to revive his heart. He is on external support for heart functioning.”
As a writer, Sadhu has written on the rise of Shiv Sena, the Chinese revolution, and the Vietnam War. He has also contributed as a journalist to several newspapers. His journalism work has won him the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, NC Kelkar and Acharya Atre award.
