Vijay Diwas: To Pay Tribute To The Soldiers From The 1971 Indo-Pak War

Vijay Diwas, the day to pay tribute to the martyrs who bravely found in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Naval Staff Sunil Lanba and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal B. S. Dhanoa paid their tributes to the martyrs with white wreaths at the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

The Defense Ministry tweeted, “On the occasion of #VijayDiwas, Smt @nsitharaman pays homage to the brave martyrs who lead India to victory in the war of 1971. She places a floral wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. Jai Hind!”

Exactly 46 years ago on this day, 93,000 Pakistani troops raised white flags to surrender to the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini ending the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The war was a result of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) struggled to fight for freedom from Pakistan.

Politicians from across the country took to social media to pay tribute on this historic day. PM Modi tweeted, “On #VijayDiwas we salute the unflinching courage of all those who fought in 1971 and protected our nation diligently. Every Indian is proud of their heroism and service.”

Rahul Gandhi’s Office Twitter page posted, “On #VijayDiwas, we salute the indomitable spirit and sacrifice of the martyrs of 1971 War. Let each one of us remember the unfathomable valor of our soldiers, who defend India’s freedom every day.”
