Among all the architectural wonders in India, the Taj Mahal is one that is the most disputed. The origin of the Taj Mahal had been argued to originally be a Shiva Temple after a book titled Taj Mahal: The True Story by P.N. Oak was released.
The theory states originally the Taj Mahal was a Shiva Temple built by Raja Jai Singh known as Tejo Mahalaya. Shah Jahan allegedly used the temple to bury his wife and then later turned it into the Taj Mahal as we know it.
This theory has been rejected by a number of historians but a few people in the country on occasion raise petitions in court to reveal the apparent truth about the Taj Mahal.
This brings us to one of the cases in the Agra Civil Court where a few Lucknow lawyers filled an affidavit on 24th August 2017. The affidavit claimed that there was solid evidence to prove that Taj Mahal was originally a temple.
The lawyers from Lucknow also listed the ASI and Central Government as respondents but both have denied the assertions. The court is set another hearing on 11th of September.
The Central Information Commission has requested the central government to fact check and confirms if the Taj Mahal was a temple gifted to Shah Jahan by Rajput kings.
