Everything To Know About Today’s Super Blue Blood Moon

Today is the day to witness a rare Lunar event where you can see a Super Moon, Blue Moon and a total Lunar Eclipse on 31st January evening.

Everything to know about the Super Moon, Blue Moon and Lunar Eclipse:

1. The total Eclipse will be visible in India and will start at 17:18 IST. The eclipse will be full at 18:21 hours and remain the same till 19:37.

2. The entire Eclipse will last for about an hour and 16 minutes.

3. The last time a Blue Moon was visible in India was on the 30th of December 1982, 35 years ago.

4. The Americans on the other hand have not witnessed a Blue Moon for 152 years.

5. The entire Eclipse will be visible to the naked eye and special binoculars or a telescope will not be required.

6. The next total Lunar Eclipse will be seen on the 27th of July 2018 in India. But this will not be a Blue Moon or Super Moon.

7. A Blue Moon is when two full moons occur in the same month.

8. Super Moon is when the moon is at its closest to the Earth. The moon will appear 14% bigger than usual.

9. A Blood Moon is the red tint the Earth’s shadow will cast on the moon during the eclipse.

10. This rare event when a Super Moon, a Blue Moon and full Lunar Eclipse coincide can be watched either on NASA TV or NASA.gov/live.
