WB And Assam’s Assembly Elections For First Phase Underway

The West Bengal Assembly election and the Assam Assembly elections started from today, the 27th of March. 

The voting began at 8:00 A.M., and would continue till 5:00 P.M. With this, the Assembly elections kickstarted in two eastern states.

In West Bengal, the major national party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the regional Trinamool Congress (TMC) would have a tough fight for 294 Assembly seats.

In Assam, the fight for 129 Assembly seats would be between the BJP and Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front in alliance with the Indian National Congress (INC.)

In West Bengal, the first phase polls are spread out in 30 of the state’s 294 assembly seats. The first phase elections of West Bengal would be held in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram.

In Assam, 47 Assembly constituencies of the total 126 seats are conducting the polls in the first phase. Most of these seats are in the districts of Upper Assam.

A senior leader of the BJP, Hemant Biswas said, “The BJP-AGP combine will win 42 of the 47 seats in the first phase.”

According to data from the Election Commission, there are 191 candidates in the fray for the 30 Assembly constituencies in phase 1.

The election results are scheduled to be announced on the 2nd of May 2021.
