The final phase polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021 is underway in the State. Nearly 84.7 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise and decide the fate of 283 candidates.

The 8th phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections8th phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections for 35 seats began at 7:00 A.M., and would continue till 6:30 P.M. Amid the second wave of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, people are standing in queues to cast their vote. In regard to ensuring smooth polling, the Election Commission of India (ECI) deployed police officials and 641 companies of central forces. In Addition, all the precautionary measures of COVID-19 or Novel Coronavirus were also taken to avoid spread of the virus.

The state registered its highest single-day spike of 17,207 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, while 77 more people succumbed to the disease.

In the final phase of the elections, the ECI set up t 11,860 polling stations spread over 11 assembly constituencies each in Murshidabad and Birbhum, six in Malda and seven in north Kolkata.

Stray incidents of violence were reported on Thursday from several areas where voting is underway for the eighth and last phase of assembly elections in Bengal, but the overall polling process has been peaceful with 37.80 per cent turnout till 11 am, EC officials said.

Poll panel placed the Trinamool Congress (TMC’s) Anubrata Mondal under strict surveillance. The poll panel has placed Trinamool Congress’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal under strict surveillance till 7:00 A.M., on the 30th of April.

The decision was taken by the State Election Commission (SEC) as the chief electoral officer received “several complaints against him”.

This time, national leaders of the BJP like Amit Shah, Manoj Tiwari, Yogi Adityanath, Ravi Kishan, J.P. Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi did a door to door campaign for the Party in West Bengal. This year, the tough fight for the 294 Assembly seats in West Bengal is between the BJP and the ruling TMC.

The West Bengal Assembly elections were divided in 8 phases, and today the elections ended.

The counting of votes would take place on the 2nd of May.
