West Bengal Containment Zones Under Strict Lockdown From 5 PM Today

The West Bengal Government announced complete lockdown in the containment zones of the State. 

The lockdown began from 5:00 P.M., of the 9th of July, today.

The decision was taken In the wake of the increasing cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) Government issued a government notice regarding the same on the 6th of July. 

The decision was confirmed by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, after the hours long meeting. 

As per the issued guidelines, all private as well as government offices would remain shut, malls, restaurants, transportation and other services would be suspended.

According to sources, the imposed lockdown would be in all the containment zones and buffer zones. The State Government decided to combine containment zones and buffer zones and impose the lockdown. 

As per revised containment zones, Kolkata has 33 containment zones, North 24 Parganas has 219 containment zones, 

South 24 Parganas  has 155 containment zones. 

Other district which are under lockdown are: 

Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Malda, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Bankura, Birbhum and Cooch Behar

The West Bengal police deployed police force in containment zones to ensure everyone is following the lockdown in the containment zones. 

All transport, shops and other services were asked to shut before 5:00 P.M.

The lockdown which began from 5:00 P.M., 9th of July would continue until further notice. 

However, the State Government did not announce any date for the end of the imposed lockdown
