On Tuesday, a wheelchair bound passenger claimed he was not allowed to board his flight from Bangalore. The incident took place on the 17th of December when the passenger tried to board an Air India flight to Kolkata.

Kaushik Majumdar is a researcher for the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI.) He claims that the airline’s ground staff harassed him while he tried to board his flight.

Majumdar recounted the experience and explained the airline’s staff told him the wires connected to his wheelchair would be disconnected. Majumdar said, “I was boarding the flight to Kolkata, it was Air India flight no. AI776. After taking my boarding pass and clearing the security check, I was told that I have to remove the battery of my wheelchair and shift to a non electrical wheelchair, which I did. But despite disconnecting the battery of the wheelchair, the staff said that all the wires connected to the battery had to be removed. Now that was completely impossible for me because there are many wires and removing them and putting them back is an expert’s job.”

But Air India has completely denied these accusations. The airline’s staff explained that the passenger was already informed the battery operated wheelchair would not be allowed on the flight.
