On Monday, a woman of Mumbai filed a case against her ex-girlfriend for uploading her nude pictures on social media. The women, a 45 year old each were in a live in relation in Mumbai for quite some time.
The sessions court on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea by the woman on whom the case was filed. The couple were living together for more than a decade and worked in the pathology department of a reputed private hospital in the western suburbs of the City. The Mumbai Police admitted that this was the first time such case was registered with the force.
The case registered on February fourth of this month was registered under Indian Penal Code section 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 356 (Criminal intimidation), 506 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and under the Information Technology Act.
The couple started living together in Mulund after one of them had a divorce and being close friends for a very long time. A Senior Police Officer said, “Six months ago they started having trouble in their relationship.” The complainant, while living together, learned that the girlfriend was passing off the pictures as her own on Social Media from the last two years.
The victim first observed this on November 21, 2016, after the accused put a WhatsApp nude display picture. When confronted she threatened to tarnish the victim’s image and left the house. The victim over time pleaded with the accused who refused to give in which led the victim to file a case.
The court rejected the accused’s bail on the grounds of the mobile phone not yet being recovered which is a substantial evidence in the case.
