World Tuberculosis Day: India Is Working Towards Eliminating TB By 2025 Says PM Modi

On World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated India will eliminate TB by the year 2025.   

Modi tweeted, “In the spirit of this year’s World TB Day theme of ‘Wanted: Leaders for a TB free world’, I urge citizens and organisations to take the lead in the movement to end TB. A TB free world is a wonderful service to humanity.”

PM Modi also said the Government is dedicated to making India free of TB. He said, “While the world has set a target of 2030 for TB elimination, we in India want to become TB free by 2025! At the recent Delhi End TB Summit, I spoke more about the subject.”

The World TB Day is a day observed on the 24th of March to bring public awareness about Tuberculosis. Here are the statistics to our TB problem in India. India’s TB cases account for 24% of the world’s cases. Tuberculosis takes the lives of 480,000 to 500,000 Indians every year.

The World Health Organization has listen TB as the world’s top infectious disease killer. Tuberculosis claims the lives of 5000 people each day.
