On Monday, Y.C. Modi was announced as the new Director General of National Investigation Agency (NIA) replacing Sharad Kumar. The present Director General Sharad Kumar’s terms as NIA Chief ends in October 2017.

On Monday morning, the Ministry of Home Affairs made the announcement regarding the new NIA Chief.

In 1984, Y.C. Modi joined as an IPS officer in the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He went on to be part of the Special Investigation Team that investigated the Gujarat riots in 2002.

Y.C. Modi was also the Additional Director General of Police in Shillong and the Additional Director of CBI.

As Y.C. Modi takes over the NIA his hands will be full with the ongoing probe on the funding of separatists and stone pelters in Jammu and Kashmir by the Pakistan based terrorist groups.
