Rahul Gandhi started his two week tour of the United States with an address to the students of University of California, Berkeley. In his address, he informed that he would be considering to contest in the 2019 national election as Prime Minister.

The Congress vice president was quoted saying, “I am absolutely ready to do that…. We have an organisational party that decides that and that process is currently ongoing… That decision is something the Congress party should make.”

Rahul Gandhi also said that the reason behind Congress losing its mojo was a certain arrogance that crept into the political party that made Congress lose a number of opportunities since 2012.

Gandhi even addressed the accusation that said he is a dynast to which he humorously said, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav is a dynast, Mr. Stalin is a dynast, even Abhishek Bachchan is a dynast. The Ambani kids are also running the company, that is just the way India runs. The real question is if that person is a capable, sensitive person.”

Rahul Gandhi also remembered to attack opposition party BPJ and accused them of festering, “hatred, anger, violence and politics of polarisation.” He mentioned this in connection with Gauri Lankesh’s murder and the recent mobs that have lynched people for being beef eaters.

He further added, “It makes millions feel they have no future in their own country, isolates people and converts them to radicalization.”

Mr. Gandhi had a few nice things to say as well, he appreciated Modi’s Swachh Bharat initiative but also criticised him subtly.

Rahul Gandhi’s trip will also involve him addressing overseas Indians in New York City’s Marriot Hotel. Gandhi will also travel to Aspen Institute and Princeton University. His last address will be in New York at the end of two weeks.
