Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to be probed in the National Herald Case: The Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi face a hurdle yet again as the Delhi High Court permitted the Income Tax Department to go ahead with the National Herald case.

This case was lodged based on a private criminal complaint by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy. Lodged in 2012, the case accuses the Gandhis and others of conspiring to cheat and showing misappropriate funds by paying Rs. 50 lakh to buy a company worth Rs. 2000 crores. Apart from Gandhis those involved in the case include Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda.

Swamy also alleged the Young India Private Limited entity, which both Sonia and Rahul have shared in paid Rs. 50 lakhs to acquire The Associated Journals Limited (AJL.) This AJL was the publisher of National Herald newspaper. The minister also alleged the AJL owed Rs. 90.25 crores to Congress and the YIL ”took over in questionable manner” was doubtful as AJL was worth more than Rs. 2000 crore back then,

The Gandhis and other accused ministers in the case said that Swamy’s plea was, “in the nature of a fishing and roving inquiry which is not permissible in law.”
