The Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS,) a part of Prajakutami, an alliance between the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) is expected to contest alone in the Telangana Panchayat polls.

As per the Hyderabad High Court, the Telangana Panchayat polls will be held before the 10th of January, 2019. The Hyderabad High Court gave a green signal to conduct the Telangana Panchayat polls after the Telangana Assembly elections were conducted smoothly on the 7th of December.

Kodandaram, the President of the TJS, said, “It is a tentative proposal. A final call on going it alone will be taken by the party’s core committee. The general opinion is that we should fight alone as panchayat polls will give an opportunity to build the party from the grass root levels.”

The individual participation by the TJS in the Telangana Panchayat polls raised a lot of questions about the party and the Prajakutami. Mr. Kodandaram answered all the questions and said, the Kutami will continue to exist and will take part in the larger interests of the State. He further said, the agenda of the alliance will be to ensure the development of the State and fulfilling the aspirations of the citizens of Telangana.

Speaking about the defeat, Kodandaram said, the alliance was created too late and did not have a strategy against K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President.

The Prajakutami was defeated by the TRS in the Assembly elections held for 119 seats. The Prajakutami secured a total of 21 seats, whereas the TRS won the elections with a total of 88 seats.

An official announcement regarding the dates of the Telangana Panchayat polls is yet to be made.
