The best celebration of lights came from the Adivasi village in Thoomanur in Tamil Nadu. The village danced with joy as their houses were electrified for the first time.

The officials began providing the village with electricity on Monday evening with an inauguration ceremony by legislator V.C. Arukutty.

The ceremony was celebrated with music and dancing with Arukutty and officials from the forest department.

The village is situated on a hilly terrain and 80 electric poles had to be constructed which cost Rs. 40 lakhs.

This will be the first time that 50 families with a total of 200 people will be able to use television sets, fans, mixers grinders and other equipment provided by the Tamil Nadu government.

The village has a Panchayat Union Middle School has been struggling with the solar power provided a few months ago but now electricity will solve all their problems.

The headmaster of the school, Shanmuga Sundaram said, “We are very happy. The people at that place are seeing electricity for the first time. People who live below (Coimbatore,) struggle without electricity, even when it is for 10 minutes. It’s great that the kids have finally got electricity. They finally get to experience Deepavali.”

The proposal to provide electricity to Thoomanur was made four years ago and has finally been made a reality.
