Andhra Pradesh: 53 People Trapped In Flood Waters Rescued

In Andhra Pradesh, the 53 people who were trapped in the flood waters of Vamsadhara river at Purushothapuram village were rescued. The people were trapped since Sunday midnight and the SDRF and Fire Services Departments rescued them on Monday morning.

On Sunday sand mining workers went to the authorized sand reach in the Vamsadhara river. The AP authorities lifted 22 gates of the barrage to release water downstream. Although an alert about the release of water was sounded the daily wage workers were unaware of it.

This resulted in the workers panicking when they noticed the sudden increasing level of the water. The workers climbed atop the lorries and earth movers they brought for sand mining. The SDRF and Fire Services Department personnel were alerted of the incident and rushed to the spot.

The officials reached the spot at 3:30 A.M., on Monday but were forced to wait till 5:00 A.M. for better light. Using drones the officials located the workers and took a headcount. With the help of inflatable boats, the workers were rescued in the morning.
