The Pratyeka Hoda, Vibhajana Hameela Sadhana Samiti is organising a state wide bandh with Jana Sena and YSRCP demanding Andhra Pradesh’s Special Catergory Status. After proposing the state wide bandh, the Samiti received support from the left parties, Jana Sena and YSRCP. The one day bandh is in hopes of putting pressure on the Union Government to concede and give AP the Special Status.
Surprisingly, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) which has been vociferously agitating for the Special Category Status has also decided to participate in today’s bandh. The TDP leaders said their Chief Chandrababu Naidu will sit for a hunger strike in Amaravati to protest. The AP Chief Minister Naidu will sit for the hunger strike from the 20th of April which coincides with his birthday.
All the parties who did not attend Mr. Naidu’s all party meeting are part of this bandh. Schools and colleges called for a day off in view of the bandh while public transport were kept on the sidelines to avoid any violence. Security in vulnerable places like BJP leaders’ residence and the Secretariat have been tightened. Public places in the State are swamped with the police to maintain peace.
