Arvind Kejriwal Launches Delhi Common Mobility Card

On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a pilot ‘Delhi Common Mobility Card.’ This card will allow commuters to travel in the Delhi Metro and the 250 select city buses.

By the 1st of April, the Delhi Government is aiming at shifting to a Common Mobility Card that can be used for the Metro and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses.

At the event, Kejriwal was quoted saying, “Today is a very important day for the city of Delhi and its people. We have launched the Common Mobility Card, which can be used by commuters in both Delhi Metro and in DTC buses. In fact, this Common Mobility Card can be used in any mode of transport in Delhi that has an electronic ticketing system.”

The pilot project will provide Delhi metro Cards that will be valid for 200 DTC and 50 cluster buses from Monday. The Metro Card can be used by tapping it on an Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) in a bus to generate a ticket. The ticket will also reveal the remaining balance in the passenger’s Metro Card.

Kejriwal said, “As of today, this card is being used in the Delhi Metro, 200 DTC buses and 50 cluster buses. From April 1 onwards, the card will be functional in all DTC and Cluster busses across the national capital.”

Kejriwal was also questioned about the delay in the Metro Card to which the CM said, “You should ask her (former CM Sheila Dikshit) why there was a delay. But whatever the reason for the delay, what’s important is that now the card is here and it will make life easier for the residents of Delhi.”

At present, ETMs are used by the conductors in buses to issue the tickets. The money deducted from Metro Cards are sent to the Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC.) The DMRC issues the Metro Cards for commuters in Delhi. The money will then be transferred to the Delhi Government.
