Asaduddin Owaisi, President, All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM,) lashed out at Yogi Adityanath at a public rally, for his comment about Owaisi having to ‘run away’ from Hyderabad, on Wednesday.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, earlier warned Owaisi and said, Owaisi will have to run away from Hyderabad if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in Telangana.

Asaduddin Owaisi, while addressing a public rally at the Hyderabad Press Club, responded to Yogi Adityanath’s remark saying, “I am number one citizen of India, an equal citizen and I am not a tenant.” In addition, he said, he is an Indian by choice, unlike Yogi.

Mr. Owaisi also said, “We (Indian Muslims) rejected Jinnah’s theory. We always accept that India is our homeland. You cannot treat us as second-class citizens.”

Mr. Owaisi further criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their ideologies toward the Muslims. He said, the BJP leaders do not treat the Muslims as equal citizens, but as unequal citizens.

The AIMIM and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) share a friendly relationship and Owaisi supports K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR.)

All the parties, including the BJP, the Congress and the TRS, will contest the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections, scheduled on the 7th of December. The counting of the votes will be held on the 11th of December.
