Camfecting is the newest privacy violation to attack Hyderabad after a female student filed a complaint. The term camfecting is a combination of camera and infecting. This is a trick by cyber crooks who manage to gain access to the victim’s webcam.
The cybercriminal sends a link that contains a Trojan horse virus that takes control of the system that clicked the link. This virus gives the crooks access to the system’s web camera.
The girl who filed the complaint downloaded a song from an unknown website and the virus attacked her laptop. The accused then recorded her every move at her hostel and send her the images with a blackmail note. The girl approached the Cybercrime wing of the Crime Investigation Department and told the officials she was being blackmailed for money.
The police first ruled out the possibility of someone from the hostel blackmailing her. They then checked her laptop to find the virus and tracked the email sender. The accused was identified as a dropout student from Delhi and was arrested.
