Telangana Greyhounds Gun Down Over 10 Maoists

Today, Telangana’s Greyhounds along with Chhattisgarh Police gunned down over 10 Maoists in Bijapur. The Greyhounds are a special task force of Telangana State undertaking high risk operations against the Naxalites. Based on an intelligence report, the Greyhounds, in a joint operation with Chhattisgarh Police, raided a Maoist camp; around 35 Km into Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

The Superintendent of Police of Bijapur, Mohit Garg said the Greyhounds and the Maoists exchanged fire in a forest near Pujari Kanker, around 500 Km from Raipur. Garg further added the joint forces launched a counter insurgency operation in the forest.

Over 10 Maoists are reported to have lost their lives in the encounter. However, 10 Mortal remains were recovered along with some weapons. The police are yet to identify the bodies of the Maoists. Sadly, one of the Greyhounds jawans succumbed to his injuries.

An official said, “An AK 47 has been recovered from the encounter site. It is a normal practice with Maoists that hi- tech assault rifles are given to senior cadre members.” They suspect senior Maoist leaders could be among the ones gunned down. Garg said they launched a search operation and are awaiting further details.
