Today, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi launched development schemes worth Rs. 1,000 crore for Daman and Diu. Modi further inaugurated a flight connecting the coastal town of Diu to Ahmedabad. The Air Odisha’s flight connecting Diu and Ahmedabad under the regional connectivity scheme is said to boost tourism. Modi said, “The air connectivity will boost tourism as tourists who want to visit the Somnath temple, Gir forest (Gujarat) can now go from Diu.” Today, Modi also launched a helicopter service connecting Daman and Diu.
Modi laid the foundation stones for a few projects in Daman. The projects include a water treatment plant, a municipal market, a gas pipeline, a footbridge and an electric substation. Modi also inaugured schools constructed under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and anganwadis (childcare.) He further distributed scooters to differently abled people and electric rickshaws to women.
