On Wednesday, a special review meeting was conducted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to discuss the raising complaints regarding the state of the roads in the city.

Navin Mittal, Municipal Administration Secretary was present at the meeting and ordered the engineering wing of GHMC to make filling up potholes a priority.

Media reports show that in 581 locations there are as many as 2,100 potholes. The GHMC has given the contractors a period of 10 days to complete the restoration of the roads.

A news channel reported that Rs. 23 crores were required to repair the damaged roads.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy was quoted saying, “The cement concrete roads will take some more time as it involves technical and traffic issues. As per procedure, municipal authorities have to call for tenders for works above Rs 1 lakh. Since even short term tenders are a time-consuming process, the works will be allotted to empanelled contractors.”

During the meeting, the GHMC also made a check list on different parameters to ensure that there is no comprise on the quality of the work.

The heavy rains in Hyderabad have shown a repeat telecast of last year. Pedestrians and commuters are struggling with the damaged roads that have become worse over the past year.

In some areas, the rain has washed roads away and in some battered them into horrible condition.

KT Rama Rao, State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister have ordered GHMC to repair the roads at the earliest without worrying about the procedure.
