The 50 year old man who was accused of raping a 9 year old child in Guntur, was found dead yesterday. The man was found hanging from a tree near Amaralingeswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the minor complained to her mother of stomach pain. The mother noticed her daughter was bleeding and rushed her to a local hospital. The doctors said she was badly injured and required stitches. The girl was then moved to the Guntur Government Hospital for treatment.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met the family and relatives of the rape victim. He also announced ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs for the minor. Mr. Naidu said, “Government will hold rallies across the State on Monday to create awareness among public. Stringent punishment will be imposed on those who commit such heinous crime.” The CM also stated the Government would provide help for the girl’s education.
The minor child was sexually assaulted by 50 year old Mannem Subbaiah a rickshaw puller from the same neighborhood. A case was registered based on the complaint filed by the mother.
Earlier, the Guntur Rural Superintendent of Police Venkata Appala Naidu explained Subbaiah fled the village and a search party was looking for him.
Locals were enraged and staged a protest on the Narkatpalli and Addanki Highway from 10:30 P.M., to 1:30 A.M. The protesters blocked traffic, raised slogans and burnt tires.
The President of India Ram Nath Kovind also agreed to an ordinance to change the Child Rape Act. The ordinance calls for the death penalty to all accused of committed sexual crimes against children under the age of 12.
