Heavy Rains In Odisha Due To Depression In Bay Of Bengal

Due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, 10 districts in Odisha are likely to experience heavy rains from the 8th of December. The depression grew at Southeast Bay of Bengal and then moved Northwards at 35 Kmph within 6 hours.

In the morning of the 9th of December, the system is likely to move North-Northwestwards towards the North of Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha. The depression will cause rain and thunderstorms in some coastal districts on the 8th of December.

The Meteorological Department issued a warning for heavy rains in Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Puri, Khorda, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur and Koraput in the coming 48 hours.

The MeT officials has adviced the Odisha Government to hoist the Distant Cautionary Signal Number One (DC-1) at Gopalpur and Paradip Ports in the State. It has been estimated gusts of winds moving at a speed of 40 to 60 Kmph are likely to prevail along the Odisha coasts till the 10th of December. The fishermen in Odisha have been warned not to go to sea till the 10th of December as the sea condition will be rough.
