In a horrific incident, a woman was allegedly set on fire and killed by her husband for not doing well in her MBBS entrance exam in Hyderabad.

On Sunday evening in Rock Town Colony at L.B. Nagar was where the incident took place. But reports were revealed only on Monday. The police have arrested the accused, identified as Rishi Kumar.

The deceased victim’s parents filed a case against the husband Rishi Kumar who works in a private company. The police booked him under Section 302 (punishment for murder) and 304 (punishment for culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police at L.B. Nagar, Venu Gopal reported that the woman Harika (21) had gotten into a fight with her husband regarding her bad performance in the medical test.

The officer was quoted by a news channel, “After the fight, Rishi left the home at around 4:00 P.M. He came back after 7:00 P.M., and noticed that she was charred to death. Based on the complaint of the victim’s parents, we have arrested him. However, no evidence has been found against him yet.”

The girl’s parents have also alleged that Rishi not only harassed her about her studies but also for additional dowry.

According to the family, Harika was initially living in a hostel while doing EAMCET coaching. Harika went back to Rishi after getting a seat for Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

The ACP further added, “Even the accused hasn’t confessed to the crime. The post mortem report is yet to arrive. We may get a lead if it was suicide or murder after receiving the report.”

The husband, Rishi claims that his wife committed suicide and he came home to her charred body. But the police are doubtful of his claims and are collecting evidence.
