Hyderabad Heavy Thunderstorm Kills Two

Hyderabad was hit by a heavy thunderstorm resulting in the death of two people on Thursday. The thunderstorm raged with strong winds causing power cuts in most parts of the city.

A man from Afzalgunj died after getting electrocuted due to a live wire. The police also reported a man was washed away in a drain in Kala Patthar. At the Shama Cafe in Moghalpura, a 100 year old tree was uprooted injuring a few people in the area.

In a press release, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported a total of 162 trees were uprooted. Water stagnation was reported in 38 places in the city according to the GHMC.  

A total of 19 electric poles collapsed due to the harsh winds and two houses collapsed due to the rain. Many areas faced power outage for hours as officials failed to restore the power even after the storm.

Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan monitored the situation via CCTV cameras along with senior officials. GHMC sent out emergency teams to remove the trees obstructing traffic.

The heaviest rain was recorded in Nampally, Kapra and Amberpet at 4 Cm. While Jubilee Hills, Musheerabad, Asif Nagar, Saidabad, Himayatnagar and Malkajgiri also witnessed heavy rains.
