The owner of the famous Mayur Pan shop in Hyderabad was arrested on charges of rape. A local techie placed a complaint against the owner stating he drugged and raped her.
Upendra Verma the 33 year old owner was arrested after the woman filed a complaint at the Kachiguda Police Station. The police also arrested three others who were involved in trapping the woman.
The woman alleges Upendra cheated her by promising to marry her. The victim claims Upendra blackmailed her with intimate pictures and videos threatening to post them online.
The woman met Upendra on Facebook four years ago and their friendship developed into an affair. She alleged that Upendra sexually exploited her after offering a sweet pan laced with sedatives.
The woman said, “He said he will marry me and sexually assaulted me several times. He took me to resorts, where he gave me pan which made me feel drowsy. He recorded videos and took pictures of us in compromising positions, with which he threatened me.”
The police have launched an investigation against Upendra and his friends to see if they exploited other women. A case under IPC Sections 376 (Rape,) 354 (C) (Voyeurism) and 417 (Punishment for Cheating) was registered against Upendra and his friends. The police remanded Upendra to 14 days in Judicial custody.
