The Hyderabad Metro commuters need to start paying for smart parking. The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) planned a smart parking management system. They will be set up at 24 metro stations on the Nagole Miyapur stretch. At present passengers park their vehicles at the empty lot provided for free.
Once the smart parking is set up two wheelers will pay Rs. 6 for the first two hours and then Rs. 3 for each hour after. Four wheelers will pay Rs. 16 for the first two hours and after that Rs. 8 per hour.
Motorists parking outside the designated area will be heavily penalized. Two wheelers breaking the rule will pay a fine of Rs. 100 and four wheelers pay Rs. 200 fine. The rule breakers will also be charged for 10 hours of parking for violating the parking rule.
The HMRL is asking private agencies to come forward to take up the work and maintain the system. The smart parking will involve a mobile app that features slot availability and payment. The app will register the user with the vehicle and license details.
