Hyderabad: SHE Team Prevent Child Marriage In Ibrahimpatnam

The SHE Team from Ibrahimpatnam in Hyderabad prevented a child marriage on Friday morning. The Team received an anonymous tip and rushed to Mukkunur village with the local police.  

After the police foiled the illegal marriage, they reported a 17 year old girl was being made to marry a 35 year old man. The local police and SHE Team counseled the parents of the minor girl and the groom.    

Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh M. Bhagwat congratulated the Ibrahimpatnam SHE Team for successfully stopping the illegal union. Bhagwat also made an official statement warning priests, wedding card printers, community elders and parents supporting child marriage.

He said everyone involved in performing child marriages will be prosecuted under the Child Marriages Prohibition Act of 2006. Violating the Act results in 2 years minimum jail term and Rs. 1 lakh fine/  

Mr. Bhagwat strictly added all girls below the age of 18 must be in school as per the Right To Education Act of 2010 and the Supreme Court Order of 2009. The Police Commissioner urged the public to report cases of child marriage. You can either call 100 or for the Rachakonda Police 9490617111.
