Hyderabad’s Factly, a data journalism portal, was selected as one of the recepients for Google’s new project, Google News Initiative (GNI,) a YouTube innovation funding programme.

A total of 87 recepients were selected across 23 countries in the world. Factly is one of the 10 comapanies in India selected for the funding project, which was announced in July 2018.

The broadcasters, journalists and digital publishers, who are a part of the GNI, will get a chance to showcase their ability in the competetive world of digital journalism and experiment with new styles of video journalism. The funding programme will also help to boggle their minds to experiment with and come up with different formats of video journalism.

The YouTube Google Blog posted an open entry for all the broadcasters and publishers to apply for the GNI. According to the post, anyone in the field of digital journalism and media, with a commitment toward quality journalism and an enthusiasm for innovation, can apply.

Following the post, many organisations applied, out of which, 87 were selected from across the world.

Rakesh Dubbudu, the founder of Factly, was confident that this support would help the team at Factly move closer to achieving their mission. The backing will also allow the Team Factly enhance their capacities, improve their infrastructure and get resources which can be used in the field of public information.
