Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao announced 500 new electric vehicles would be purchased by the Telangana Government. This is to make the City of Hyderabad pollution free.
KCR made this announcement after meeting with authorities from BYD (Build Your Dream) Auto Industries Co., Ltd. BYD is a Chinese automobile manufacturer that specializes in electric vehicles.
The authorities from BYD took KCR on a ride in one of their electric buses. The Chief Minister explained the pollution in the city was rising and electric vehicles are a good solution.
KCR went on to explain in the first phase 500 vehicles would be purchased for the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC.) The Chief Minister said the first phase would focus on limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and then move to other districts.
BYD plans to set up a factory for the production of the vehicles in Hyderabad. The Telangana Government will support the company to help make the State pollution free.
