Kerala CM Seeks Center’s Help Due To An Alarming Situation

The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is in Delhi to request help from the Center due to the flood. Heavy rains lashed the Central and North parts of the State. A total of 20 deaths have been recorded in a never before seen scenario.

The CM conducted a high level review meeting with his department today. He will discuss the requirements to the Central delegation today in Delhi.

Mr. Pinarayi explained, “As many as 22 dams, including Idamalayar, have been opened. As we speak they are opening the Idukki dams also. Initially only a small quantity of water released as a trial run. With the heavy rains continuing like this, Kakki dam could also be opened. That could lead to inundation of Kuttanad region.”

The Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed when the rain started causing heavy damage to the districts.The land locked region of Wayanad was fully cut off and damages were seen in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Idukki districts.

A total of 3 NDRF teams have been deployed to Alappuzha, Kozhikode and Ernakulam. Another 5 NDRF teams will join the rescue and relief team.
