Enacting a scene from the blockbuster film Sholay, a medical practitioner threatened to jump from a cell phone tower if his wife did not divorce him. B. Ajay Kumar Rao from Arepalli village climbed a cell phone tower in Telangana’s Jagtial town.
Ajay threatened to commit suicide if his wife, Lasya did not sign the divorce papers. The man alleged his wife wrongfully accused him of dowry harassment and filed a police case against him.
On hearing this news, the police rushed to the spot and requested Ajay to come down. Ajay dropped a letter to the officials with details of his situation and his demands.
After nearly four hours, Lasya signed the divorce papers in front of the authorities. Jagtial town Inspector Prakash explained the situation, “Ajay and Lasya were married for seven years and they had differences. The couple has a daughter. Lasya had gone to her parents place three years ago but returned after a patch up. However, after differences cropped up again, Lasya slapped dowry harassment under Indian Penal Code section 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the IPC and also filed a domestic violence case against him.”
The police calmed the man down eventually and saved him before he could do anything to harm himself.
