Farmers from the Kurnool District decided to protest in a unique way against the continuous neglect faced by the Rayalaseema Region. The farmers sent cheques of 68 paise to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his upcoming 68th birthday on September 17th.

Rayalaseema Saguneeti Sadhana Samithi (RSSS) collected thousands of cheques from the farmers living in the region to give them to Modi.

RSSS President B. Dasarah Reddy questioned, “Lack of necessary irrigation facilities and biased water allocation is the reason behind the drought situation in Rayalseema. Although the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 recommends allocation of funds and increasing water share for a backward region,  they haven’t been implemented. What about the Railway Zone at Guntakal, steel plant at Kadapa, Agricultural University and other Institutions proposed in the Act?”

The center has been making a change in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha by offering Special Development Packages. The Bundelkhand Special Package was introduced in Madhya Pradesh and the Koraput-Bolangir-Kalahand Special Plan in Odisha. But yet Rayalaseema one of the most backward regions have been left to suffer.
