Demanding Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched the Dharma Porata Deeksha, a hunger strike for 12 hours. Today is also the CM’s birthday but he decided to spend the day fighting for the Special Status for his State.
Mr. Naidu began his fast at 7 A.M., this morning after getting the blessings of priests and religious leaders. Several ministers from Naidu’s Government joined the CM in the fast. The Dharma Porata Deeksha is being held in all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. The State ministers are leading this protest in their respective headquarters.
However, Naidu is receiving a lot of heat for his decision to go on a fast. Many have brought up a quote CM Naidu made when Prime Minister Modi went on a one day fast. Naidu was quoted saying, “Have you ever seen a Prime Minister going on hunger strike in the history of the Country? He is trying to blame it on the people of the state for his inability to run the Parliament. He is trying to instigate his party cadre against us and gain political mileage.”
Congress spokesperson Kolanukonda Sivaji criticised Naidu and called his fast a drama. YSRCP ministers have also ridiculed the Chief Minister’s form of protest.
