On Thursday night, a 14 month old baby girl fell into a borewell in Ekkareddyguda village. The abandoned borewell is near Chevella mandal in Ranga Reddy district.

It is not confirmed what the depth of the bore well is, some say it is 60 feet deep while others suggest it is 40 feet deep.

As soon as the tragic incident was reported the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Cyberabad police rushed to the spot along with the district administration.

Reports have revealed that the baby, Veena fell into the hole at 7:30 P.M., and is the daughter of a migrant laborer Yadaiah.

Sruta Keerthi, Assistant Commissioner of Police at Chevella Division said, “the girl accidentally fell into the open agriculture bore well when she was with father. It is dark and efforts are on to get her out of the bore well with the help of lights, we are working.”

A news channel reported the baby was heard crying by the locals which confirms she is still alive after the fall.

P. Mahender Reddy, State Transport Minister reported, “The kid is alive. We could see her hands. As a first step, oxygen is being pumped into the bore well to ensure she breathes easily.”

P. Mahender Reddy was at an Iftar and as soon as he heard the news, he rushed to the spot.

It has been 12 hours since the girl fell in and rescue operation is still underway. The men in charge are digging a parallel pit near the bore well to get to the girl.

An NGO, Balala Hakkula Sangham has demanded the officials to book criminal cases against the concerned revenue officials.
