The Telangana State Government will soon formulate a set of rules for solid waste management. The task of preparing solid waste management policy guidelines was given to the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) with consultation from different stakeholders.
On Monday, the decision was made during the State Advisory Board meeting. The meet was headed by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar.
Kumar directed the Pollution Control Board officials to inspect hospitals, function halls, malls and hotels to ensure the steps to segregate and store solid waste are being followed. He also asked the officials to make a detailed report after the inspection.
Solid waste management is a challenge for the municipal bodies in Hyderabad. Every day a total of 4,000 metric tonnes of waste is generated in Hyderabad alone and transferred to different stations. Hyderabad also has just one dump yard in Jawaharnagar which is full.
As a citizen of Hyderabad, the way to alleviate this problem is segregating your trash. Keep two dustbins at home one for wet degradable wastes and the second for non degradable items like plastic.
