Telangana Police Saved 617 Lives From Road Accidents In 2017

According to the Telangana State Police around 617 lives were saved in road accidents last year compared to 2016. The police have laid strict rules and taking action against overspeeding, drunk driving and two wheeler riding without a helmet.    

Road accidents in Telangana went down by 2% in 2017 while compared to the previous year. While the fatalities in accidents were also brought down by 9% in 2017. However, in India, the number of fatalities has increased by 3% in 2017. On Wednesday, the Director General of Police for Road Safety T. Krishna Prasad made the announcement.

Krishna Prasad said the decrease in accidents were thanks to the police of the State. The Telangana Police conducted awareness programs around the State. This was to educate the people about the dangers of overspeeding, helmetless riding and drunk driving.

The Police also exhibited short films and video footage at educational institutions to teach children road rules. Prasad said, “We took up a massive campaign to educate people especially auto rickshaw and truck drivers and IT professionals on road safety issues.”

In 2017 a total of 85 lakh cases were booked against people breaking road rules. In 2014 only 50 lakh people were booked in breaking the rules.
