Vanteru Pratap Reddy, a Congress leader, joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) on the 18th of January 2019.

Mr. Reddy contested the recent Telangana Assembly elections as a Gajwel candidate and lost against K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the TRS Chief and the current Chief Minister of Telangana.

Vanteru Pratap Reddy said, “I knew very well that KCR would win against me but I fought because of my desire to become an MLA. People have given their verdict in favour of TRS and I have seen how all the schemes are reaching the poor.”

Speaking about joining hands with the TRS, Mr. Reddy said, KCR personally called him and invited him to be a part of the TRS, an invitation which Reddy accepted.

K. Tarakarama Rao (KTR,) the Working President of the TRS, welcomed Vanteru Pratap Reddy to the TRS and expressed his happiness regarding this move ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

KTR also spoke about the third party (federal front) contesting the Lok Sabha elections, which aims at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) free and Congress party free India. Addressing the media, KTR said, the other opposition parties such as the Congress party and the BJP will get an average of 100 and 150 seats respectively, whereas the TRS party can secure 16 to 17 Lok Sabha seats.

Confident of the federal front coming to power after the general elections, KTR said, “There is scope only for the federal front comprising of various regional parties to come to power.” In addition, he said, “It is only in the Khammam LS (Lok Sabha) seat we appear to be weak, but we will win from there also.”

KCR proposed the idea of the federal front to all the regional parties across India. He recently met Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mayawati Das, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader, Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, and Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, to form an alliance with them ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held between April and May 2019. The major parties contesting are the Congress party and the BJP.
