On Friday, the BJP released its manifesto for the Gujarat election polls. Earlier the Congress criticized the BJP for not announcing its manifesto even after the end of the campaigning for the first phase polls.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar and State BJP President Jitu Vaghani released the Sankalp Patra (manifesto of the BJP.) Arun Jaitley is in charge of the 2017 Election Polls in Gujarat. The BJP did not set targets as it did in the 2012 manifesto. The BJP’s manifesto promised 50 lakh homes before the next election (which they did not deliver.)

However, in the 2017 Sankalp Patra, they ensured overall development and resolutions. There are no proper details or extravagant promises in this manifesto.

The BJP did not add any new promises, they just repeated the same from the 2012 manifesto. A few of the repeated promises are building 50 lakh homes, bringing fields in Saurashtra under irrigation, providing jobs to youth etc.

Arun Jaitley said, “Gujarat’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth is highest in India. In the last five years. Gujarat grew at an average rate of 10% amongst large States.” “The BJP aims to ensure unity in the State and work towards the welfare of all groups,” Jaitley added.

The BJP in the manifesto stated:

  1. They will double the farmers’ income through various schemes. Cheap fertilisers and seeds, better irrigation, proper Minimum Support Prices and access to food processing.
  2. Increased pension for widows at regular intervals.
  3. Quality education will be given priority and International level universities will be constructed. District level Tribal Welfare Boards and an Adivasi University will be set up.
  4. Increase in the number of generic medicine shops. Mobile clinics and laboratories will be introduced. Gujarat will be made free of vector borne diseases.
  5. Villages will be converted into smart villages. Pucca houses will be constructed for poor families. Toilets will be constructed in every house in the rural areas of Gujarat.
